Fixed and Floating Object Damage Survey-1
Fixed and Floating Object Damage Survey-2

Fixed and Floating Object Damage Survey

Our senior consultants conduct specialized Fixed and Floating Object Damage Surveys to assess and investigate incidents where vessels, barges, or offshore units have allied with infrastructure such as docks, piers, dolphins, fenders, buoys, mooring systems, subsea structures, or other navigational aids and fixed installations. These surveys are critical in evaluating the nature, extent, and causation of damage for liability determination, insurance claim resolution, and risk mitigation.

Our team of Master Mariners, Marine Engineers, and Naval Architects, each with extensive sea-going and shore-based experience, conducts a thorough and impartial assessment to determine the structural impact on both the vessel and the impacted object. OceanEx acts for vessel owners, charterers, terminal operators, P&I Clubs, H&M underwriters, port authorities, and legal counsel.

Survey Scope Includes

  • Immediate site attendance for damage documentation and preservation of evidence
  • Physical inspection of the impacted structures and/or vessel hull and fittings
  • Analysis of incident chronology and shipboard data (VDR, AIS, logbooks, ECDIS tracks)
  • Review of mooring arrangements, berthing conditions, pilotage, and environmental factors
  • Interviews with crew, pilots, terminal representatives, and tugboat operators
  • Estimation of damage repair scope, costs, and possible contributory negligence
  • Coordination with civil, port, and class authorities as required

All findings are reported in clear, defensible technical reports, often accepted in court proceedings, insurance settlements, and subrogation claims. Our experts also provide litigation support and expert witness testimony as required, ensuring accurate and defensible evaluations based on international codes, industry standards, and professional integrity.
